Language Nut

FREE Online Resource for Schools for 2 weeks

Maori, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Italian and more!

Great for Teachers and Students to use from school or home online.

Languagenut has developed a great site with French, Spanish, English etc but now has introduced Maori for the Interactive Games section.  Play those in class and let the students play on them at home during Maori Languages Week!

To see all the programme will have to offer in the future be sure to check out the interactive songs and stories for French - this is where we are heading with Maori too!

Languagenut is an excellent resource for beginning learners of Maori, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Spanish and Italian.

Your subscription entitles you and your students access to all six languages at school and at home, 24 hours a day. The programme is easy to use and engages and motivates your students, providing them with opportunities to use vocabulary in context and extend their knowledge.

Curriculum

  • Each Language contains 24 units, each unit comprising lessons which introduce useful vocabulary and phrases.
  • The vocabulary and structures fit into Levels 1 – 6 of the NZ Language-specific Curriculum documents; for example, it introduces the past and future tenses as well as the present tense.
  • The format is more suitable for beginning learners up to Year 10 and not for senior students.
  • The songs (only available in some French units at the moment) and the vocabulary relevant to well-known fairy tales makes this programme perfect for beginning learners (and teachers unfamiliar with the Language) in Years 7 and 8.

Interactive Whiteboards and Data Projectors

  • Ideal as a teaching tool in the classroom with an interactive whiteboard or a data projector. The wide range of topics and vocabulary provide teachers with fantastic starting points from which to launch essential learning opportunities. Because each lesson introduces phrases as well as vocabulary, students are able to learn how to put language into sentences and learn about the structure of the language in a fun way. Listening to the natural accents helps students to improve their pronunciation.
  • Of course, students will also enjoy the opportunity to learn new vocabulary and phrases by playing the interactive games on the computer, either as part of a classroom lesson or as a homework activity.

Please note, the Chinese and Japanese programmes do not use kanji or kana script, and therefore would be best suited for intermediate school learners.

The best way to test the value of this programme is to take advantage of the 2-week free trial. Take a good look at the huge range of vocabulary and phrases, and let your students try the activities for themselves.

Games - available in Maori

Each lesson is made up of a presentation and six games – Listen ‘n’ Learn, Multiple Choice, Hangman, Memory, Noughts and Crosses and Match the Pairs. There is also access to print off the vocabulary list and matching flashcards, with more printable resources being developed.

Songs - available in Maori at a later date

The songs are only available in the French programme Units 1 – 12 but they will be developed in all languages. The songs are a fun way for students to remember important vocabulary and can be used in a variety of ways; with or without the background music, the singer and/or the lyrics, providing varying degrees of difficulty.

Our aim is to have 24 songs and stories complete in French, German and Spanish this September - we are well on our way!

    Culture

    Coming Soon!

With cultural awareness now rightly an essential ingredient in the primary language delivery, the Languagenut team is in the process of creating a series of inspiring and humorous interactive animations to take learners on a world tour - one that introduces them to the geographical and cultural icons that make language learning so relevant. Each animation will last around 5 minutes, and aims to inform and excite both learners and teachers.
